I was picked up by the Supershuttle at 3:35 AM, so I didn't see the sunrise. But the previous morning, the sunrise had been extraordinary, as you can see from the two photos above!
In the next photo you can see the section of fence I had built recently, by the same friend and neighbor who built the other fences. The last bit of ugly fence is covered!
The bent-iron lizards are the same ones which were on the first fence. They are much more visible, mounted on the new fence. The trees I planted in front of them were already starting to obscure them.
The reason I took such an early plane was so that I could get to Oscar's and Paulette's house earlier, around 10:00 AM, so Oscar and I could practice some music. Their fig tree was leafing out gloriously.
I found the Horatio Hornblower series which Mom is inspecting below, of DVD's at HalfPrice Books, thinking Mom might like them. Only three minutes into the first episode, I could tell that the level of violence would be way too much for her. I lent them to Joseph the next day. He thought he might find them interesting, because he's actually read all of the books.
I had a great conversation with Jennie Coral the following morning. I am starting to regard her as as a friend as well as a care-giver.
The care-giver who was there Saturday was a really nice young woman. She is of Philippine heritage. Just really easy to be around, and she helped out a lot.
The "tea" was nice, a very congenial group and an interesting conversation. Here's Mom with her friend Marcia, looking at the three books which Marcia has just published, collections of all of her library science research papers over the years.
(Marcia's name is pronounced with the stress on the second syllable.)
Marcia brought her friend Toni with her. Toni is also in the Library Science field, and attends a lot of conferences all over the world. Toni had a lot of interesting things to contribute to the conversation, including some hilarious stories.
Toni noted that Marcia is one of the top people in her field. I had no idea.

Peggy said that Harry was having trouble recovering from a fall he had recently while walking on the road by their house! She said that he's fallen before, but this time it's been harder him to recover. He's lost his confidence to walk anywhere. I love Harry, he's such a character; I do hope he recovers! Peggy said that he is almost 90!
Oscar and I played some songs during the last half-hour of the gathering, as we usually do, "Amazing Grace", "Wildwood Flower", "Midnight Special", and B.B. King's "Help the Poor, Baby Help Poor Me" among others. Everyone was most kind.
Mom read one of the Marcia's books all evening. From time to time she would turn over the one she was reading, and stroke the cover and the spine of the book, running her finger over the title and over her friend's name. Quite touching.
What a lovely surprise the following morning, that Madelyn and Joe came down. It was such a treat to see them.
I am writing this blog on Tuesday following the weekend, and I'm at the library. I just had my computer lesson, and my tutor's wife and kids came along and played happily in the kids' "castle" and "cave" playrooms while we had the lesson. Here are a couple of photos of them leaving, first her with the three year old girl, then him with the boy and the baby girl. As you can see, they are expecting a fourth child. They are a really nice family.
I am still quite tired from the weekend trip, much more than usual. I do hope I am not coming down with something. I keep making typing mistakes, an abnormal amount...
A thunderstorm is supposed to move in tomorrow, and it already it looks more like rain.
Dale Sr. is supposed to get home tomorrow! I must clean up the house! Just went to the laundromat and washed the sheets.
Love,
Lennie
