Pizza Oven Progress and first Renaissance Festival Weekend

Hi Mom and Family,

I was swamped Friday, ended up staying up late getting the new hem of my Renaissance Festival costume skirt done (it's over six yards along the bottom).

Me in costume (you can see why the new hem took so long, those triangles are all applique'd!)

Here are a few photos of the characters in their costumes:

This couple, the hammer dulcimer duo the "Puckerbrush Players", are good friends, for years. I used to alternate performing on this stage:

This guy, Eddie Jeff Cahill, is one of the best musicians at the festival:

Mid-morning I went out to the Renaissance Festival site again. It was not open, but they have a fund-raiser breakfast every Monday morning for the people who work there, as some do not have health insurance. Peter (glassblower friend) had invited me to a music jam.

Here is the scene I found, lots of beads and tie-dye for sale, lots of people socializing while they waited for their breakfast order to be done, and a couple of the musicians at the music jam:

I really enjoyed the music jam, but when I got home I was very tired (probably because of doing the Renaissance Festival all weekend). But I had to get stuff ready for the drama club.

First I went out to see what the guys had gotten done on the pizza oven. Here's a photo of the first two rows of the roof. (The wooden form, shown in the Thursday blog, was used to shape each row, one at a time.)

Here's a photo of kids doing art club at the Boys & Girls Club.
The club meeting went a lot better than last time, because I had the help of a middle school girl who is going to take one of the roles. She will usually not be coming Mondays when I work with the little kids, though.

Tuesday photos:

During the previous week, I'd had no time to do my weekly long walk, so I determined to do it this day, and again on Friday. I walked five miles in the morning.

When I came back, the pizza oven looked like this, now the roof had three rows of bricks and more of the side walls had been built.

The clay is put on to keep the brick from drying out too fast.

In the evening I parked a mile and a half from the Boys & Girls Club. I walked there, made the five phone calls to parents I needed to make, and walked back to my car. The mountain looked beautiful in the late afternoon and evening light:

One of the nice things about walking is that you notice such detail. I was struck by this huge old ironwood tree:

Lennie
