Grace & Kevins Gee's Party

Grace's party was super!

As requested by Grace, Dale Sr. made a large tub of Guacamole, sprinkling over the top of it the home-made smoked chile powder which he made from the dried chile peppers in our garden. Everyone raved about it.

Jeffrey Mitchell and Dale Sr.:

It was quite emotional to me to see "Hammy" and his girlfriend (a former teacher of middle school social studies who is now an actor like him.)

She always wanted to be and she won some sort of prize which gave her money to go to LA and try acting which is where she met Hammy. She recently got a small one time talking part on a known TV series, one of the ones on cable channels, but they are both doing okay, lots of advertisements. Terrified at what will happen to Obamacare as they have no benefits in their line of work. They seem very happy together, have been together about three years.)

 Hamilton and his girlfriend

Both Hammy and Jeffrey had flown in from California. Jeffrey and Anga and baby all came. Anga (sp?) was  attending a medical conference in Phoenix.

Liz and her daughter Nikki were there. Liz is working on a series of photographs about "contrast", which sound very exciting. She also told me about Laura's photo cards and I saw an example of them, they are beautiful. Nicki is pursuing college studies on-line.

James is a high school history teacher. He is top in the country on an online thing called "Quiz-Up" on ancient history, for one week he was top in the entire country. He was sporting a British looking mustache and and for a while he taught Latin, but what the school really wanted was a little bit of Latin and history and so on. He likes teaching. He said that his mother, Diane, is doing very well.

James, Anga (sp) and their baby

Jeffry was there with his wife, who is a doctor of audiology with UCSF hospital if I am correct and their new baby. I asked her what her hospital felt about Obamacare and she said that they like it because they see a lot of people who would never have come in before.

Jeffrey said that his mother is doing great, SF area, she works as a legal secretary (?) in several law offices, as a hawker for Renaissance festival, Dickens festival etc., and also teaches water aerobics on weekends!

Jeffrey said that Fred Mitchell is doing well but "feeling his age", approaching "the big 7-0".

I did not get good photo of either Kenny (Charles' other son), or of James, or of Kevin! I'll see if someone else got photos of them there and will let me add them here later.

The idea for the party started because Jeffrey and Anga (sp) were in Phoenix for a medical conference which she was taking part in.

The food, mostly made by Kevin was great. A delicious cilantro pesto, tacos stuffed with a mild chile-flavored creamy chicken filling, tamales.

Charles' two sons were there, Kenny is a lighting tech on films, vegan. He wouldn't eat the guacamole until he found out it had no mayo in it.  His brother Mike was also there, the resemblance to Charles almost uncanny.

We left around 6:30, after the game of crochet had started and before the Grace's rum cake and Nikki's cookies.

James told me about giving our brother John the booklet of West Point (something or other) and said that he was very impressed that John knew immediately what it was, when he (James) mentioned it.

Kenny does a lot of independent and student films. Mike, his brother, is a student of graphic design at ASU. He is also a Lyft driver. James brother Bryan works as a high-tech welder.

They all asked about you, Mom, and how you are doing. I told them how well Sandy is taking care of you.

One couple who are friends of theirs from the neighborhood were there. Grace and Kevin do a "supper club" with some of their neighbors where they take turns hosting the group for dinner. They have recently started a "project night" where four of the husbands meet in Kevin's shop and work on a project for one of them, taking turns.

As we left, a rousing game of croquet was starting....

Thanks Grace for a great party!
